It may surprise regular readers of this pageโ€”given my tendency to attack orange terpsโ€”but my favorite dish as a teenager was duck ร  l’orange. Queen of the South jostled those memories of that sweet and savory fowl right from the get go. The aroma comes through strong like an active kitchen with odors of herbs, pepper, orange and a bit of cherry cordial, and a pungency which mixes skunk and gas. The flavor comes through first with a mouthful of tangerine and then tons of herbs, from thyme to mint, pepper and spice, and the reemergence of cherry and a bit of petrol.

Queen of the South is a heavy hitterโ€”I was not really prepared for that. Midway through the joint I felt dreamy, aloof, flighty and out of this world. By the time I finished my joint I was in a deep stuporโ€”fighting to keep my eyes openโ€”losing the fight without even knowingโ€”waking up briefly just to stumble to bed.

I highly recommend Queen of the South to anyone who loves sweet and savory terps. The flavors and aromas are delicious and unique. The high is way overwhelming for novice consumersโ€”and perhaps even for some experienced consumers (like myself). When consuming, stay at home and close to a bed (or sofa).
