White Labs’ Blue Dream took be back to UpperCut 1 which featured Blue Dream as one of the three cultivars our growers were competing with. In fact it really resonated and reminded me of the winning cut of the Blue Dream part of the competition with a wild looking forest green base with inordinate amounts of rust brown hairs. The aroma is strong in sweet citrus with a deep earthiness and touches of wood. The flavor has more of an earthy, woodsy and peppery flavor with more muted citrus notes.
The high starts with an energetic and thought provoking buzz in the head. A soaring high which reaffirms that the consumer is very much alive, engaged and part of everything around him with. But that high tapers and then chills out significantly, leaving the consumer lethargic and listless and leading to slumber.
Blue Dream is not as common as it used to be. It was a sign of the times half a decade and more ago and I have fond memories of it. The high still stands out for its unique trippiness and its move from highly engaged and thought provoking to asleep. The bud is like a time machine into the not so distant past.
