Grower: Thai Kush

Rating: 4.4

UpperCut on Tour: The Highest Sesh in Low Season on the 18th of May in Phuket at Phuket High

Thai Kush is new to these pagesā€”but based on the quality of their first set of samples they are not new to growing. Each of the three samples sent burst out with bright explosive aromas. I picked their Candy Apple as the first strain to review because I was overwhelmed by the layers of aromas in their other two strains and found aromas which were easier to identify and isolate in this bud (in other words, I was lazy). While these aromas are easier to identify they are by no means less intense nor explosive. Candy Apple has a loud, bright, sweet and artificial chemical fruit aroma, with a fizziness which tickles the nose. A dry pull reveals more subtle aromas of apple  and cardamom. The flavor of the bud goes in a different direction with a more natural fruity flavor of a baked apple pie covered in burnt brown sugar with hints of pineapple,  lavender and spice. The flavor and aroma contrastā€”but are both delicious.

Candy Appleā€™s high starts off heady with most of the effect in the head.  The user will be focused, engaged, creative, with time seemingly slowing down and all distractions neutralized. As the high develops time slows down further and the most minute details of things become incredibly interesting and satisfying. A strong relaxing and sedating effect develops deep into the highā€”at one point I put the water on in preparation of my end of the day mint tea and dark chocolate. I never heard that water boilā€”but instead woke up two hours later on my couch.

Candy Apple has intense aromas, a delicious flavor, and a high which swings from focus to sleep. It is appropriate and recommended to experienced usersā€”but I am a bit hesitant to recommend it to novice users. In the right environment, with some good and trusted friends, Candy Apple could be a good education for a new userā€”but this is not the right bud for a virgin to try alone.
